Disney is an example Vertical integration
because it is a conglomerate. When making a film it goes through three main
stages, they are: Production, Distribution and exhibition. If the company owns
other companies which can do these stages it is known as a conglomerate which
is vertical integration. It is beneficial for Disney to be a conglomerate
because it means they don’t need to go to other companies to get music, sound
effects and distributing the films. When Disney distribute there films they use
Walt Disney studios motion pictures who are owned by Disney.
This saves money and it is easier.
Disney is funded in many ways, from
merchandise to assets. They get funded by the merchandise sales because kids
always like Disney films and the TV shows.
They sell the merchandise by making lovable characters, for example
Perry the platypus In the Disney show ‘Phineas and Ferb’. They sell this merchandise via either
their own line of stores or throughout external stores. Another way Disney is funded is through
their amusement parks and their video games Their current main video Game is
Disney Infinity.
The changes in technology has helped
Disney a lot with the animations going from being drawn to made on the
computer. In this clip it shows the difference in quality of the animations.
Ownership refers to who owns companies or
group of companies in the media industry.

Multinational: one with institutions in
more than one country. This can have economic advantages as well as giving
better audience reach. Eg:
