Filming our advert

Idea: The first idea I thought of was to have two people dressed as elves and one person dressed as Santa and they would be doing different sports and things like playing football, basketball and playing tennis. The reason I thought of there sports was because I have football gear, basketball gear and tennis gear I thought if we chose these sports I could just bring my gear in. As we started casting we realised that the actors we wanted to use were busy and I volunteered to do it myself and after some convincing Daniel did too. After we sorted out what we were going to do we changed the idea and made it so someone walks into a changing room (me) sits down and throws his shoes on the ground in anger, he is then given a box which is wrapped by Santa (Ben) he opens it to find a brand new pair and he walks out the changing room and he goes to the gym, plays football and plays basketball.

storyboard: when it came to the storyboard I told my group about my idea and then we all agreed to do a little part of the storyboard as each of us had a 30 second advert to do. I said I would do the storyboard for the advert which includes all of the 30 second ones as it was my idea.

casting: when it came to casting it was quite difficult, me and ben had some actors in mind as we used them in a previous project. we agreed on three actors and we messaged them via Facebook two of them were happy to do the advert but one didn't get back to us. After having a conversation with two of the actors it turned out they weren't available as they were working on a pantomime and it was a busy time for them so I took it upon myself to be in it. Daniel didn't really want to be in it at first but after some convincing he said he would, Ben also wasn't to keen on being in it but he stepped up when we need an extra person.

collection of equipment: when we came to film we used the cameras from college which we got from the green room, we used these cameras for day one and day two but when it came to the third day there was some confusion and we couldn't use the same camera so we used a SLR camera. we haven't used the SLR that much so we asked Mark for some guidance on how to use certain things once we started filming we got use to it and we enjoyed using it and the quality was good.

location: When it came to location we had two places in mind. one of them was Sedgefield Community College which is mine and Bens old school, the reason we thought there would be a good idea was because the school is a sports college so the sports facilities are great, there is a 3G astro-turf and a huge indoor hall. The other location idea was Durham University's sports Stockton campus which is the one we ended up using, the reason we chose that was because it was close to the college and the facilities are great.

Filming
Day 1: On the first day filming we (me, Daniel and Ben) went to Durham University's sports campus at Stockton next to our college, they said we were aloud to film as long as we didn't get anyone in the background. when we were there we planned to film the gym, football and basketball advert. When we got there we filmed the Gym part first as the sports hall was busy. In the gym we filmed me and Daniel doing various exercise like press-ups, sit-ups, weights, running on the treadmill and on the exercise bikes. When we went to film the football advert we didn't have much time so we rushed it and when we got back and had a look at it we all agreed that it wasn't good enough and we could do better. on the same day we planned on filming the basketball advert however we didn't have much time and the basketball hoop wasn't out on this day.

Day 2: On the second day we planned to film the football and basketball scenes but the hall was busy so we came back to College and filmed the changing room scene. In the changing room scene we filmed me coming through the door, sitting on the bench and then taking off my old shoes and throwing them down on the ground. the reason we did this is because it made it look like the old shoes weren't good enough and made my performance poor, after I had taken them off and thrown them down I was given a wrapped box by Santa (Ben) and then I opened it to find a brand new pair of trainers which will help me perform better. The shoes which I unwrapped were the ones I used in the previous days filming.

Day 3: on the third and final day we went to Durham university's sports campus the same one we used in the first days filming. We also had to use a different camera which was hard to use but we got use to it and it was good quality. The staff at the University where happy for us to film there as long as we didn't get anyone in the background like before. when we went to the hall to film in turned out we had the whole hall free so we got to work right away as there was a exercise class due in later on. we started from scratch on the football footage so we did that first, I was filmed doing various tricks and shots from different places. The filming was quite hard because sometimes (most of the time) I couldn't get the right shot on target but once we had it was good. By chance the basketball hoop was out and already set up so we had a short break and then got to work on the basketball filming, he basketball filming was a long progress as was hard to get the shot on target every time. one shot took ages and was the hardest shot on that day but it looks really good so it was worth it. When we got back we looked through the footage we all agreed that the footage was good and we were all proud of it.

Editing: When it came to editing we all had our separate parts to edit, so mine was the football edit which was me playing football and doing various shots and tricks. Daniels was the basketball edit which was me doing different basketball shots and skills. Ben did the gym edit which was me and Daniel doing various workouts. On top of the individual edits we had to do a group edit which was all of the sports in one advert, me and Ben both did this but Daniels wasn't working.

Focus group: Our group held a focus group to get some feed back on our adverts so we could make changes to improve. for the feed back for my advert (football one) it wasn't too bad, the feed back for the music was that it was good however it ended to soon and it cut off as soon as the video ended they also said that it should fade out. They also said they were the same shot as the basket ball shot which some of them were similar but not the same. for the longer advert which was all of the sports together one person said that they didn't know what they were advertising and someone else wasn't keen on the music. I have added a logo at the end so it shows what is being advertised. In my advert there is a Nike logo on my shoes, shorts and t-shirt.

Here is my football advert.

Here is the advert with them all in.

Centurion Resurrection

The start of the film is when the bird is flying over the top of the city and members of the public see it, after it has flown over the city it then goes to the roman baths and lands on top of a statue of a roman. When the bird is on the statue a roman appears coming out of the baths, he walks slowly out the baths and the bird follows him. After he is out the bath the roman walks on to the street and takes his hat/helmet off and a kid comes over and puts money in it, a man who is playing the guitar then argues that it is his patch. The guy says “oi this is our spot, mine and Caesar” the roman gets on one knee and says “hale Caesar what are your commands” and the guy replies “oh you know, sit role over play dead that sort of thing” the roman looks at the child and it’s the end.

Sort film pitch

The Bet

An outgoing teen makes a joke bet at a football game and it turns serious.

For my idea I thought I would have two teens one called Sam and another called Jake. The more outgoing one Sam makes a joke bet with his friend Jake that he will bet £1000 that Newcastle (or another team) will win. His friend Jake laughs it off as a joke but there is a larger guy stood behind who hears and takes it up with Sam. Sam thinks it is a joke and sort of ignores it but the guy is serious and has a reputation of violence and getting into trouble. Later on at half time the guy comes over to the two and says you better have my money and walks off. At the end of the match the two lads see the guy walking over and they try to walk away but because everyone is leaving they can’t get out and he comes over and says if you don’t have my money by tomorrow you’ll get it. On the way back from the match Sam is on edge the whole way panicking checking every corner that no one is following, Jake just winds him up about it. When Jake gets home he goes through all of his money which he has saved and realises he still doesn’t have enough so he tells the police and they sort it out.

I think the genre is thriller/drama.

I think my story is unique because there isn’t anything like it.

My target audience is 16-18 and I think it fits in well as it teaches them not to gamble.

 3 act structure

Act 1: It is when the lads are walking to the station, waiting for the train and when they get on.

Act 2: when Sam makes a bet and the guy is alerted. The guy asks about it and makes the bet.

Act3: Sam is seen by the man at half time and at full time. Sam goes home and contacts police and it is solved.

Name: Sam

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Sam is an outgoing teen who thinks he is the best and is cocky. He also thinks he is a casual, a casual is similar to a football hooligan but tends not the be involved in the violence part as much just likes to dress like them.

Name: Jake

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Jake isn’t as outgoing as Sam and tends to try to keep Sam under control. Jake is also involved in the casual culture and also dresses like one.

Name: James Rock

Age: 20-25

Gender: Male

James Rock goes by the nick name Rock and is heavily involved in the casual culture and is also heavily involved in the violence.

For the setting I was thinking at a train station and show them waiting there. In the train if possible to show when the lads are talking and when the first part of the conflict happens. For the football ground there will be no actual footage of the game so I was thinking in the place where you go at half time or we could recreate it somewhere else. For the footage at the football ground I was going to use a cctv style of footage so you see the guy walk over to the two lads.

Editing music video

Editing proof from linesharvey

First I started off by setting up Premiere Pro. Once I started it up I got the footage off the SD card and put it on my hard drive. once the footage was on I labelled each one and put it in bins so it was easier to find the good ones from the bad. After I had done all of this I started importing and editing the clips.

Assignment

Editing has changed a lot over the years, lumiere brothers changed the was photography was looked at. The lumiere brothers dad use to make the photography equipment. Louis started trying new things with the equipment and he found a new dry plate process in 1881. The 'dry plate' process is now known as the 'Etiquette Bleue' process and helped his fathers business.

DW Griffiths changed the way editing was looked at, he was much more livelier when cuting his scenes .  He would shoot from different angles and distances and cut them and put them together. Edwin S Porter wasn't as lively, he took a more causious approach when cutting and he would cut them so they were Brocken into different scenes. Edwin S Porter made the great train robbery in 1903, the great train robbery was a one reel film. One reel film, The one reel film has a running time of twelve minuets and was made in twenty different shots and included a close-up of a bandit firing at the camera. The film had as many as ten different outdoor and indoor locations. No film had done this before.

Kuleshov effect. The kuleshov effect was a short film edited together to make the audience think that the person in the film was changing his expression when he looked at different things however it was actually the same shot each time. He was looking at three different things on being a plate of soup, a girl in a coffin and a woman on a divan, when he was looking at these thing the audience thought the expressions were hungar, grief or desire but in actual fact it was the same shot and expression all three times. In my opinion the kuleshov effect is explained the best by Hitchcock as it has a sense of humour  here it is.

Editing is used so the bad parts of what is recorded can be cut out and not seen in the final product. Editing is also used in the relationship of the genre, development of drama, engaging viewer and creating motivation. The purpose of editing can be seen as being very significant; the editing itself is effective as it sets a meaning for the film one good example would be the bourne ultimatum in the chase scene. It cuts between bourne running through houses jumping and a woman walking in a house then when the action starts it cuts even faster and while it’s doing this it is building up tension and gets your heart racing.

Fast cutting is a film editing technique which refers to several consecutive shots of a brief duration (3 seconds or less). It can be used to convey a lot of information very quickly, or to imply either energy or chaos. Fast cutting is also frequently used when shooting dialogue between two or more characters, changing the viewer's perspective to either focus on the reaction of another character's dialog, or to bring to attention the non-verbal actions of the speaking character

Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other. A good example is in Spiderman  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0xiCIMIwLY

Prep for editing

When preparing for editing it is important to check material. Checking Material is good because if the material isn't as good as you like, before you pack away and the cast and crew leave you can shoot it again. Another thing I think is important is that you set the material to the correct import settings, this will help when you come to edit it and it will save time doing it later. Creating bins is important because when you are editing it is good to have everything ready so you can do the edit with in your time frame. Creating bins is also important because you would have every thing in the correct file and place ready for editing. Producing a edit list is important because it will tell the editor which take you will use, notes describing the shots and a list of shots filmed, this will save time editing because if you start editing and find out the director isn't happy with that particular shot you will have to start again. Marking up a script is important so you can make adjustments where needed for example if a character is saying something and they aren't doing it the way you would like them to you could change the way it is said so you are satisfied with it. Another reason marking is important is because you can choose the location of the scene if your not happy with the first one.   Synchronising the rushes is important because if there is a voice over in the film and the person on the screen is not speaking it might look bad. A rushes log is also important so you know what you have shot, what you are going to shoot and what not to shoot this will save time when coming to film. Labelling the tapes and SD cards is important so you know which tape/SD card is which and so nothing is lost.

Back to the future review

Back to the future also known as bttf, was released on December 4th 1985 and to many it is one of the best films ever made. In the film it is packed full of exciting moments, romance (well not loads of it) and scenes which will make you say WOW. The main character Marty Mcfly played be Michael J Fox is just like any other person he goes to school which he's late for in the first couple of minutes in the film. It starts of by Marty Mcfly lung to docs house/work area to see where he is however when he gets there he's not there and there's a load of dog food on the floor. The doc is played be Christopher Lloyd and he is a scientist a bit of a mad one, he is always doing new experiments or just trying something new. What the doc does sort of rubs of onto Marty because he does his own one, in the docs place Marty has made a huge amplifier which he plugs his guitar in and stumps the guitar and it is so power full it takes him off his feet and sends him flying. In my opinion this is one of the funniest parts of the film as it is unexpected and you really don't think he will fly into the shelves and break everything. After this he gets a phone call from the Doc saying don't turn on the amplifier because it is too powerful and that he wants Marty to meet him in the mall car park at around 1 or 2 in the morning and bring a camera a with him. When Marty gets there the docs tells him he's made a time machine out of a de Loren. After doc explains how everything works the Libyans turn up and shoot the doc multiple times and Marty gets in the car and it reaches 88 mph and goes back to the future to 1985. Unfortunately he can't get back because he doesn't have enough plutonium or 1.21 jigerwats or electricity to get him back. Marty goes to see young doc and askes for help, after a bit of convincing that it was actually his invention Marty show doc a leaflet saying the clock tower anniversary and it turns out to be that day. The doc says lightning is the only thing capable of making that much electricity. Marty needs to get the electricity from the lightning which hits the clock tower and make it hit the car so he can go back. While the doc is thinking of a way for this to happen Marty sees his parents as youths and accidentally intervenes, now his mum thinks he's called Calvin Klein because that's the underwear he has on and his mum fancy some him or as the Americans say she has a crush on him which is a bit weird. As this is happening martys family is slowly disappearing and it's a race against the clock. Marty has to fix it and get back home while dodging the school bully biff. Long story short he manages to make his dad and his mum get together after martys dad punches biff, Marty than realises that he doesn't have much time so he rushes back and to find the doc who is setting up the experiment and things go wrong it unplugs because of a fallen branch from a tree and the doc eventually fixes it. Marty is in the car ready to go he gets the signal be a alarm clock and he try's to start the car and it wouldn't start after about a minute of try it work he drives to 88 mph and hits the wire and he's goes back to the furture back where he started. When he gets back his life is great Nd his family are wealthy and biff the bully is now waxing the family's cars.

What Back To The Future tought us about script writing

    Michael J Fox
Michael Andrew Fox, OC (born June 9, 1961), known as Michael J. Fox, is a Canadian-American actor, author, producer, and advocate. With a film and television career spanning from the 1970s, Fox's roles have included Marty McFly from the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990); Alex P. Keaton from NBC's Family Ties (1982–1989), for which he won three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award; and Mike Flaherty in ABC's Spin City (1996–2001), for which he won an Emmy, three Golden Globes, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 and disclosed his condition to the public in 1998. Fox semi-retired from acting in 2000 as the symptoms of his disease worsened. He has since become an advocate for research toward finding a cure; he created the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and on March 5, 2010, Sweden's Karolinska Institutet gave him a honoris causa doctorate for his work in advocating a cure for Parkinson's disease.
Since 2001, Fox has mainly worked as a voice-over actor in films such as Stuart Little and Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. On the CBS TV show The Good Wife, he earned Emmy nominations for three consecutive years for his recurring role as crafty attorney Louis Canning. Fox has also taken recurring guest roles and cameo appearances in Boston Legal, Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Rescue Me. He has released three books: Lucky Man: A Memoir (2002), Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist (2009), and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future: Twists and Turns and Lessons Learned (2010). He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2010. This is him in back to the future.

In one part of the interview he says "The script was rejected over 40 times. You have to be crazy to want to be in the film business and you have to be able to take a lot of rejection because, as screenwriter William Goldman says, 'nobody knows anything.' We were told over and over again 'Ha, it's a Time Travel movie never makes any money.', 'Oh it's nice and sweet, nobody wants to see something nice and sweet.', 'Why don't you guys take this to Disney? This could be a Disney movie. 'And this was when Disney was a complete mess"

    Individual pitch

Today I did my individual pitch while my group where sat with me, I thought It went ok however I did struggle to explain it. It sounded a lot easier to explain in my head. Everyone else's music video ideas were really good and I would be happy doing any one of the videos.

The song I have chose was Oasis Wonderwall, these are the lyrics and my ideas.

Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
    By now you should've somehow
    Realized what you gotta do
    I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now

Back beat, the word was on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
    I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now

And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I
Would like to say to you but I don't know how

Because maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall

Today was gonna be the day
But they'll never throw it back to you
    By now you should've somehow
Realized what you're not to do
    I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now

And all the roads that lead you there are winding
And all the lights that light the way are blinding
There are many things that I
Would like to say to you but I don't know how

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me
    that part of the song.

Today is gonna be the day that they’re gonna throw it back to you

So for the start of the video I was thinking about having a guy through a guitar at the main guy and he catches it on the neck of the guitar.

By now you should’ve somehow realized what you gotta do

At this point he starts playing the guitar and singing at the camera.

I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do, about you now

At this point there you will see a girl and then the girl looks at the guy singing and then we the girls point of view.

Back beat, the word was on the street that the fire in your heart is out I'm sure you've heard it all before but you never really had a doubt

The guy is playing the guitar and singing towards the camera.

I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now

Goes back to the girl watching the guy playing the guitar from her point of view.

And all the roads we have to walk are winding and all the lights that lead us there are blinding

Girl is in front of the guy walking down a back country road.

There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how

Girl stops walking and the guy walks up to her and sings ‘There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how’ they are stood looking at each other.

Because maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me and after all, you're my wonderwall

Guy looks at the girl and he says ‘you're my wonderwall’

Today was gonna be the day but they'll never throw it back to you by now you should've somehow realized what you're not to do

Guy gets ready to play a gig then the band take the guitar off him, he walks out of the building and see the girl standing there.

I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do, about you now

The guy walks to the girl who is stood outside and sings ‘I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do, about you now’

And all the roads that lead you there are winding and all the lights that light the way are blinding there are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how

They both walk down the street holding hands (street is dark and the street lights are the only light)

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall

    They keep walking

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall

They keep going until they can’t be seen

I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me

Faded out to black back ground

In my video there are going to be three people, two men and one woman. One of the men is going to be in the video two or three times giving the guitar to the main guy and taking the guitar off him. The woman in the video is the main guys 'crush' and is featured through out the video. For the costumes it will be in the style of the TV show This Is England, they would be wearing brands like Fred Perry and Lyle and Scott. The main character would be wearing a tartan style shirt and the other buy will be wearing a polo shirt. The woman will be wearing jeans and a polo shirt. This is the style I'm going for.
